How to track net worth with accounts in several countries
3 min read
To track net worth with accounts in several countries, keep accounts in the currencies they are held in, and total them in one display currency. Moflow does both: a bank account at home, a brokerage abroad, a pension in pounds and a flat with its mortgage sit in one ledger, totalled into one net worth. The ledger is free; on Moflow+, a supported brokerage connects read-only.
Moving countries leaves money behind in each of them: an old salary account, a pension from a past employer, savings in the currency you used to spend. Each has its own app, its own statement and its own currency, so what you are worth sits in none of them.
What goes in the ledger
- Bank and savings accounts.
- Brokerage accounts, kept by hand, or connected on Moflow+ when the brokerage is on the list.
- A pension or retirement account, kept by hand in its own currency.
- Property abroad under Real Estate, with its mortgage under Debt.
- Precious metals, collectibles and private company shares, plus Other.
A debt is recorded as the amount owed and subtracted from the total, so a house and the mortgage on it each show as what they are. On Accounts, an account shows its own currency and yours.
One display currency, switched anytime
Accounts keep the currency they are held in: dollars in one, euros in another, pounds or Swiss francs in a third. Moflow converts them into your display currency and shows one total. Change it anytime from the menu at the top of the app, and no account changes.
How the conversion works, with a worked example, is in How to track your net worth in multiple currencies. The net worth page shows how many currencies Moflow supports.
Your money, by currency
On Allocation, the Currency bar shows how what you own splits by currency.

Your net worth, month by month
After a month ends, Moflow captures it as a snapshot. A snapshot records your account balances for a month, converted at the exchange rates Moflow holds when it is captured. You correct a row if something moved, then confirm it, and a confirmed month cannot be rewritten.
On Moflow+, Trends reads those snapshots back as your net worth, month by month.
Brokerages abroad, on Moflow+
On Moflow+, the brokerages on the list at Connected accounts connect read-only: Interactive Brokers, Wealthsimple, Questrade, DEGIRO, Trading212 and AJ Bell among them. Positions, cash and balances arrive on their own and stay current, and an account keeps the currency the brokerage reports.
Read-only: Moflow never trades and never moves money. Moflow never receives your broker sign-in details. Not on the list? Add it by hand, and it counts in the same total.
Private, and yours
Encrypted in transit and at rest. Used only to serve you. Your ledger syncs to every device you sign in on, and erasing your data or deleting your account is free on every plan, from Settings.
Free, and what Moflow+ adds
Free is your net-worth ledger, across currencies and on every device, with no card needed. Moflow+ connects a supported brokerage, lets your AI read and update your ledger, and adds trends, goals, projections and retirement. What each plan costs is on Pricing.
